The repair cost was estimated to be $450,000 and this was the amount paid out by the insurers. Simon and Rachael opted for some improvements and added an additional $30,000 to the overall spend

“Living minimally, with just necessities, made moving around easier,” says Rachael. She subscribes to a mantra espoused by her grandmother: a place for everything and everything in its place.

Although the home’s layout has barely changed despite the house being more or less rebuilt, the rearrangement of a few internal walls has created a light and airy interior ideally suited to the couple’s lifestyle.

The property was originally a plant nursery. Now that several large trees have been removed, sunlight floods in, promoting lush growth and creating great outdoor seating and dining options.
